Malnutrition

The warning signs of malnutrition or poor health are often overlooked and can lead to acute or chronic diseases, inappropriate food intake, poverty, disability, social isolation, and even chronic medication use.

If you or someone you know has any of the following symptoms of malnutrition, you may want to consult a dietitian for nutritional counseling:

  • Unplanned weight loss of 10 lbs. or more
  • Underweight or overweight
  • Obesity
  • Nutrition-related disorders (e.g., osteoporosis or B12 deficiency)
  • Alcoholism
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Poor dental condition
  • Fluid retention
  • Change in bowel habit
  • Dehydration
  • Change in functional status
  • Poorly healing wounds
