Health Literacy Month: Understanding Your Health, Empowering Your Choices

October is National Health Literacy Month, a time to recognize how important it is for people to understand health information and feel confident making decisions about their care.

For older adults and their families, health literacy can make a meaningful difference. Understanding medications, medical instructions, diagnoses, appointments, insurance information and available services can help people communicate more effectively with their healthcare providers and make informed choices about their well-being. If you are looking for ways to celebrate, Take an online health literacy course.

At McGregor, we believe health literacy is an important part of helping older adults live with dignity, independence and renewed purpose. Our communities and programs support older adults across a continuum of care, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, hospice and PACE.

Health literacy also matters to families and caregivers. Knowing what questions to ask, understanding care options and recognizing when additional support may be needed can help families navigate healthcare decisions with greater confidence.

This Health Literacy Month, take time to ask questions, review your medications, understand your care plan and speak openly with your healthcare team. There is no such thing as a question that is too small when it comes to your health.

At McGregor, we believe that knowledge can be empowering, and understanding your health is an important step toward aging well.
