Tips for Celebrating a Loved One Who Lives Alone at Home
Simple and Meaningful Ways to Celebrate Father’s Day
Whether your loved one lives in an Assisted Living community or continues to live at home independently through the PACE program, celebrating Father’s Day can be a bit tricky. You may want to plan an outing but be hesitant about the logistics of transporting your loved one to and from their home safely. Or, you may be entirely unsure of your loved one’s expectations for the holiday. If that’s the case, we remind you to take a step back: Consider asking your loved one how they would like to spend Father’s Day. You may be surprised to find that they simply want to see you and visit with you, and they don’t care about the details.
Here are a few simple yet meaningful ways to celebrate your loved one this Father’s Day.
Bring him a basket of his favorite baked goods for a special treat.
Enjoy them together with a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.
Make a photo album of recent family pictures.
Take the time to sit and flip through the album together.
Enlist the artistic talents of young family members.
Display a selection of homemade cards and drawings from grandchildren.
Take a scenic drive to the lake.
If an outing is not possible, take in the sights from the comfort and safety of the car.
Cook dinner together.
Let him select the menu, then bring over everything you need to prepare the meal.
Have a game party.
Bring along some other family members for an afternoon of board games, cards, or puzzles.
