Our Seniors Are a Treasure.
Here’s Why Making Them a Priority Is Important.
McGregor’s President and CEO Rob Hilton and COO Ann Conn joined WKYC’s Live on Lakeside program last year to talk about the renovations to the campus that were in the works.
The pair also touched on the McGregor PACE, and the benefits of offering all of the great programs that we have in place, noting that we are assisting around 800 Cleveland-area seniors on any given day. Not only are they seniors, but they are also generally low-income and at-risk seniors. Rob points out in this interview that the McGregor Foundation is dedicated solely to eldercare programs.
We believe that taking care of seniors should be a premium in our country. Programs are funded for the youth at a much higher rate and while it is vital to have our children set up for success, there shouldn’t be an environment where we are choosing one age demographic over another. That’s why we thought it might be a good idea to take a look at why it’s important to take care of seniors.
Seniors Preserve Our History.
In a society with an increasing emphasis on the “now” and the future, seniors hold the key to understanding where we came from. It has been said that you can’t know where you are going without knowing where you’ve been, and that’s why taking care of the curators of our history means so much.
They Have Taken Care of Us.
Our parents became grandparents, and along the way, they provided for us whenever it was needed. It’s so ironic that after all of those years of benefitting from their support, we turn our backs on their generations when they need us the most. It just makes sense that our elders should be rewarded for the support they first gave us.
It Can Give Us a Sense of Purpose.
Our society is often looking for direction and looking for which causes are worth fighting for and dedicating effort to. Taking care of the elderly is one such mission. It can be rewarding on an institutional, as well as individual, level to see the difference we can make in the lives of the people who made such an impact in our lives.
We Can Learn From Their Values.
American society is in an interesting place, and there is quite a clash in what we believe in as a whole. While no generation has been without their flaws, we can take the best ideas and morals from each and create a belief system that works for a better world. Hard work, persistence, and responsibility are the cornerstones of some of our past generations, and those are all values we could incorporate today!
The McGregor Foundation is dedicated to improving the quality of life our seniors receive in Cleveland. Your loved one can benefit from our programs and stay in their home longer with our PACE program. To learn more, contact us to see what McGregor PACE can offer!
