Raising Awareness About Alzheimer’s Disease

How McGregor Supports Memory Function

Every November, we recognize Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, an initiative led by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA). Whether or not you know someone who is impacted by this disease, it is important to be aware of the facts about Alzheimer’s. These are just a few shared by the AFA:

  • Alzheimer’s is not a normal part of aging: It is a progressive brain disorder.
  • More than 6.2 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s.
  • That number is expected to surpass 13.8 million by 2060.
  • More than 11 million American caregivers provide over 15.3 billion hours of unpaid care.

This past summer, you may have seen news reports detailing how the primary hypothesis at the core of recent Alzheimer’s studies included fabricated data. For years, researchers have been looking at one hypothetical cause for Alzheimer’s, without spending time or money to develop other theories. As more people continue to be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, the urgency to fund and further Alzheimer’s research is more critical than ever before.

McGregor Supports the Walk to Remember

Raising Funds for Critical Alzheimer’s Research

Many members of the McGregor team participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s on October 2, 2022, in Cleveland. This annual event and fundraising initiative brings together communities across the country to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research.

While McGregor does not have a designated memory care unit, we make every effort to support the memory function of the adults we serve, including our PACE participants. We provide music and memory activities that stimulate the brain, as well as opportunities for them to try something new and expand their knowledge. Taking care of our brains is an important part of our physical and mental health, and it is an essential component of the spectrum of services provided through PACE. Please reach out at any time to learn more about PACE and if it is right for you or your loved one.
